In January of 2007, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Thankfully, the lump was found early, but I still had to undergo further mammograms and biopsies, just to make certain. Once the diagnosis was solidified, it was on to securing the surgical team, as well as the plastic surgery team, and the surgery date. On April 5, 2007, I underwent a double mastectomy (I opted for that due to family history and chances of reoccurring cancer) and immediate reconstructive surgery. The prognosis was great, no chemo or radiation needed, but the recovery surgery was projected for at least 8 – 12 months, which I’m finding to be accurate. Through the recommendation of my primary care physician, I found Carol McDaniel, a wonderful massage therapist who works with cancer patients and understands their needs. I thank the Lord often for her ‘healing hands’. And upon finding Carol, I found the non-profit organization Hope Lives, which offers many wonderful services for those who are undergoing various therapies or recuperating from cancer. If you or a familiy member is dealing with breast cancer please vist www.hopelives.org and www.caroljmcdaniel.com for usefull information. |
